NAME:
Read:
The animal gets its name because of the flattened shape of the beak.
With its brownish fuzz and its claws fixed on a tree branch, even a tiny one, the duckling (Platyrinchus mystaceus) stands out amidst the foliage. It's only ten centimeters long, but very graceful.
It is the flat and wide beak that gives the name of the duckling to the animal. Other specificities of the bird also give it nicknames. One of them is the white-throated duckling. This name takes into account the whitish coloration of the neck region.
The duckling is fond of dense vegetation and tangled foliage regions. Despite the difficulty in finding it, due to its small size and the grandeur of the forest, it is possible to see it perched on vines.
This bird usually remains motionless and solitary for a long time, while observing its surroundings. The fast flight happens only in search of insects to feed and the duckling always returns to a perch.
The nest is shaped like a small cup and, located about one meter from the ground, holds the bird's yellowish eggs. The duckling occurs from Roraima to Rio Grande do Sul and is also found in Latin American countries such as Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Argentina.
