The strawberries we consume are plants of the species fragaria ananassa. These plants are rosacea, that is, they are from the same family as the roses that adorn many gardens. They reproduce mainly through the stolon, which is a branch that grows parallel to the ground, generating sprouts of new plants. The varieties of strawberries that we consume today are the result of crosses of different species that occurred naturally in Europe (France and Russia) and in the Americas (Chile and the United States).
