What a delightful book to read! It's a pity that it still doesn't have a translation into Portuguese. After all, the unusual theme “watching pigeons” is valid all over the world. The author is science communicator Rosemary Mosco, who is also responsible for the book's illustrations. She has a unique style and is the creator of the famous Bird and Moon comic strips.
In this short guide to pigeon watching, Rosemary explains the origin of these birds, how they spread to cities across the planet, and how our opinion of them has changed over the centuries. Not so long ago, doves were worshiped, but today they are viewed by most people in a very negative light.
The book brings together fun illustrations, curious facts and, most importantly: a sincere invitation to observe and admire these very special birds. With pigeons we can learn genetics and history, understand the effects of artificial selection, appreciate complex behaviors and surprise us with the enormous capacity for adaptation and their intelligence. Believe me, after reading this book, you will never look at doves the same way again!
