THE SYMBOLS I, X, C, AND M CAN BE REPEATED UP TO THREE TIMES, INDICATING ADDITION OR SUBTRACTION. WHEN THEY ARE TO THE RIGHT OF ANOTHER ONE OF GREATER VALUE, WE ADD. IF THEY'RE LEFT OF A LARGER NUMBER, WE SUBTRACT.
