On New Year's Eve from 1988 to 1989, the boat Bateau Mouche sank in Guanabra Bay, in Rio de Janeiro, killing 55 people, including actress Yara Amaral. According to the reports, the vessel could not bear the excess weight and had a series of other irregularities, such as holes in the hull, open hatches and life jackets beyond the expiration date.
