NAME:
Read:
A symbolic bird that draws attention for its color and the unique beauty of its voice..
The popular name of this bird refers to the tone of the male's feathers, as the female has brown plumage. Predominantly blue in color, with contrasting parts in metallic tones, it also stands out for having black nuances, and even a strong beak adapted to feed on grains and seeds.
But contrary to what many think, this bird is not related to species like the little mustache and caboclinhos. In fact, it belongs to the Cardinalidae family, the same as the Fire Tanager and the Bunch Tie.
The bluebird likes to live in more open and sunny environments such as forest edges. It is common in the Caatinga, Cerrado and can also be found in areas of the Atlantic Forest, where there is not such an exuberant forest.
Did you know that there is more than one species of bluebird? On our territory, two close relatives of it are found: the bluebird (Cyanoloxia glaucocaerulea) and the Amazon bluebird (Cyanoloxia rothschildii). It is possible to distinguish each of these species by song and distribution area.
