How Mary spent the night

She wasn't in the mood to talk, as she no longer seemed to have any control over what she said. She used expressions entirely different from the ones she thought about. So she was silent while Mrs. Sturgis (for _______ was his hostess's name) chattered, put away the tea accoutrements, and moved about incessantly, in a manner which increased Mary's feeling of dizziness. She felt that she should take her leave and go spend the night somewhere else. But where?
