Read:
Cicadas are insects that spend most of their lives underground. Their young forms are called nymphs and as soon as they are born, hatching from eggs laid on tree branches, they fall to the ground and enter the earth.
Underground, they look for tree roots, in which they stick to suck the sap. After spending about a year in these conditions, these insects mature and leave the earth to complete their life cycle. Then, they attach themselves to tree trunks, where they later leave their exoskeleton – the layer that surrounds their body – to enter the adult phase, which lasts only a few days.
