To support the medium size, with 42 centimeters in length and about 170 grams, the white anu (guira guira) stands out for being an essentially carnivorous bird. The varied diet includes grasshoppers, bed bugs, spiders, caterpillars (including stinging ones), geckos, mice, frogs and other bird chicks. When it fails to capture prey, it resorts to fruits, seeds and coconuts.
