Who does not know the famous harmonica of João Grilo, a character from The Auto da Compadecida? Now she can return to big screens across the country or the world! A box office success and source of well-known catchphrases across the country, the historic film will get a sequel.
In the year 2000, the best known work of the great Brazilian writer and playwright, Ariano Suassuna, became an award-winning film. With the brilliant role played by the duo who play the characters Chicó and João Grilo, Selton Mello and Matheus Nachtergaele appeared together on social media to announce the launch of The Auto da Compadecida 2.
“I just know it was like that”, the phrase most repeated by the characters gained popularity across the country, and should return in the telling of new stories. For the sequel, some team names are repeated, but new people will also arrive, including in the cast. In this regard, the acting duo creates suspense.
The first version of the film, which gave face and voice to the characters of Ariano Suassuna, was released in 2000. Under the direction of Guel Arraes, the The Auto da Compadecida 2 will follow the same path as the previous success, now with Flávia Lacerda also directing. The rest of the cast should be announced in the coming days.
The film based on the work of Ariano Suassuna won four categories at the Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix. The audiovisual work has already been seen by more than 2 million spectators and, in the year of release, it was the highest-grossing Brazilian film. In addition, the feature film is on practically all lists of the best Brazilian films of all time!
When announcing the sequence of the work, director Guel Arraes said that the team asks permission from the late Suassuna, to continue the story of the great friendship between João Grilo and Chicó. The release scheduled for 2024 marks 10 years of Ariano Suassuna's death and 25 years of the recordings of the film, held in the city of Cabaceiras, in the interior of Paraíba, stage of several sets of footage.
