The effects of nicotine

The nicotine content varies with the ways in which tobacco is prepared and this is responsible for the physical dependence, making the smoker a slave to the cigarette. The tobacco industry makes use of several expedients to increase nicotine absorption. Among these, there is the addition of ammonia to tobacco, which increases the interaction with its sugars, increasing the release of nicotine […] facilitating its penetration through cell membranes. In this way, it is easily reabsorbed by the renal tubules, increasing its concentration in the blood.
