Why do fish always have their mouths open?

They cannot breathe without an ever-renewing current of water passing over their gills. This circulation takes place through the mouth, towards the operacula, which are lowered and raised regularly. Thus, the water is filtered when it passes through the gills, obtaining the necessary oxygen for respiration.
