the ant and the cicada

Once a young cicada used to hiss at the foot of an anthill. She only stopped when she was tired; and his amusement then was to watch the ants in their eternal task of supplying the bins. But the good weather passed after all came the rains. All the animals, shivering, spent the entire day dozing in their burrows. The poor cicada, homeless on a twig and in deep trouble, thought it best to go looking for help. Limping, with a little wing dragging, all wet, she went there towards the anthill. Knocked – tick, tick, tick… she barely had the strength to knock on the door, hungry and cold. The door opened and an ant appeared, wrapped in a shawl, all bundled up.

- What you want? asked the ant, examining the sad cicada, all covered in mud and coughing.
– I'm looking for shelter. The weather is cold and the rain hasn't stopped yet…
– What did you do during the good sunny weather, that you didn't build your house or gather food for the rainy days?
The poor cicada, all shaking, replied after a fit of coughing:
– Well, I was singing… I really like singing… and I forgot to build a house and look for food to store… And now, I don't know what to do…
– Oh! So you were the one who sang on this tree while we worked?
– That's right, it was me… – replied the cicada.
– Come on in, little friend! We will never be able to forget the good hours that your singing gave us. That hiss distracted us and relieved the fatigue of work. Come in, friend, you'll find food here and a warm bed to rest throughout the winter.
The cicada entered, spent the entire rainy season in the ant's house, recovered from the cough and returned to being the happy singer of sunny days.
