Bees are known to produce honey, wax, propolis and pollen. Also the precious royal jelly and even its poison, used in apitherapy. Black and yellow striped bees are part of the collective imagination as they are commonly portrayed in drawings and children's books. And there are those who only remember bees for the sweetness of their honey or the pain of their sting.
But what most people don't know is that bees play an infinitely more relevant role: they are the best and most efficient pollinating agents of the nature, responsible for the reproduction and perpetuation of thousands of plant species, producing food, conserving the environment and maintaining the balance of ecosystems.
Also few know that there are more than 20 thousand species of bees in the world. In Brazil alone, there are more than 3,000 species, mostly native stingless bees.
Amidst all this rich, but unknown universe, in recent years a problem has been influencing beekeeping around the world: the disappearance and massive death of bees. Of expressive proportions - in the US alone more than 1/3 of the swarms have been lost every year - Brazil and the Latin America begins to mobilize in the face of the various reports of bee mortality, of causes still controversial.
The campaign “Without Bee, Without Food” aims to make people aware of the importance of these pollinators and the need for their protection.
