Its name is due to the fact that it lives in the water like fish and has a snout very similar to that of oxen – in addition to feeding only on vegetables and feeding their young. In Brazil, there are two species, one that lives in salt waters from Amapá to Alagoas, and another that lives in the Amazon River basin.
