Power of a word to overcome moments of depression

Tolerance is a concept that involves treating yourself with kindness, understanding and gentleness, especially in times when we are experiencing emotional difficulties.

Rather than criticizing or judging ourselves harshly, tolerance encourages us to treat ourselves with compassion and understanding, just as we would a dear friend. The study examined the effects of tolerance on people experiencing depressive emotions.

Participants were asked to repeat the word “tolerance” to themselves in moments of sadness, frustration or self-criticism. Surprisingly, it was found that simply repeating this special word helped reduce depressive emotions, promoting a sense of calm and emotional release.

Heartbeats were monitored to understand the observed results in a practical way.

Tolerance of negative emotions

Researchers attribute this beneficial effect of tolerance to a change in how we relate to our negative emotions.

Rather than resisting or suppressing these emotions, tolerance invites us to welcome them with compassion and acceptance. This creates a space of gentleness within, allowing us to feel and process these emotions in a healthier way.

In addition, tolerance is also related to greater emotional resilience. When we treat ourselves with more compassion, we develop a solid foundation of self care and emotional support. This helps you deal better with life's challenges and face depressive emotions more constructively.

Start practicing tolerance

Integrating tolerance into our daily lives can be a gradual process, but one that is fraught with significant benefits. We can start by practicing kindness and understanding with ourselves, especially during difficult times.

We can remind ourselves that we are human and facing negative emotions is part of the human experience. Instead of judging ourselves, we can offer ourselves words of encouragement and support.

Remembering the word “tolerance” can be a powerful reminder to nurture our emotional well-being. By taking a compassionate approach to ourselves, we pave the way for deeper emotional healing and a fuller, more balanced life.

So the next time you feel overwhelmed by depressive emotions, try reciting this special word and let tolerance be your guide to greater fulfillment. well-being emotional.
