Body and headache pains, sore throat, cough, fever, runny nose… Is it the flu? Or is it a cold? Although they have extremely similar symptoms, these are two different diseases.
A cold is a mild infection and is usually caused by viruses belonging to the Rhinovirus family, which has more than 100 types. The flu – also known as influenza – can seriously affect the body, thanks to the action of viruses known as influenza A, influenza B and influenza C.
Although the two diseases can lead to complications such as ear inflammation, bronchitis and pneumonia, flu causes greater concern among researchers and health professionals, due to the high transmission and mutation power of its agents infectious. That is, flu viruses can take on new forms and spread rapidly among people, resulting in epidemics of the disease.
