The results of the 2022 Demographic Census were finally published by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The publication of the first data took place this Wednesday (28) and shows, among other things, that the number of Brazilians is lower than expected.

In the year 2021, the estimate was that there would be 213 million people living in Brazil. Afterwards, the previous data from December 2022 pointed to a considerably smaller number: 207.7 million.
However, the reality was different and the official number indicated by the IBGE was 203,062,512 inhabitants in the country, even lower than the second forecast. Know more!
In all, more than 5,570 locations in Brazil were visited to carry out the 2022 Census survey. IBGE servers were up to 106.8 million addresses.
The main highlights of this first moment of disclosure are:
1 – Brazil registered a population increase of 6.45% in relation to the previous edition of the census, in 2010;
2 – In absolute numbers, there was an increase of 12,262,757 inhabitants;
3 – According to the census, in the last year, the growth rate was 0.52% per year, the lowest level in the historical series;
4 – The Southeast gained 4,482,777 people, and the South, 2,546,424. It was the regions that grew the most;
5 – Of the 5,570 municipalities in Brazil, 3,168 gained inhabitants between 2010 and 2012;
6 – On the other hand, 2,399 lost inhabitants between 2010 and 2022;
7 – The most populous city in Brazil is São Paulo, totaling 11,451,245 inhabitants. Next come Rio de Janeiro and Brasília;
8 – There are only three cities with less than a thousand inhabitants; they are: Serra da Saudade (MG), with 833 inhabitants; Borá (SP), with 907; and Anhanguera (GO), with 924;
9 – Population growth was greater in the interior than in the capitals;
10 – 5% of Brazilian cities concentrate 56% of the country's population;
11 – In the 2022 Census, the average of residents per household dropped from 3.31 to 2.79;
New data should be released gradually and will be available on the IBGE website, in the area dedicated to the 2022 Census.
