New for MEI in 2023 may be readjusted in the monthly installment

It is planned for 2023 to update the amounts paid monthly by MEI (Individual Microentrepreneur). Therefore, one must expect that the fees will not be the same as those paid this year. On a monthly basis, micro-entrepreneurs pay the DAS (National Simple Collection Document) to carry out self-employed activities.

The DAS that the micro-entrepreneur pays enables access to social security benefits. The MEI formalizes the work of those who do not perform paid activities with a formal contract. Some rights vest when this occurs. In this way, the worker gains access to benefits such as retirement, sickness benefit, maternity aid, pension in case of death for the family and prison aid. The value of the monthly fee currently reaches R$ 66.60.

For this reason, it is important for the micro-entrepreneur to be aware of any foreseen changes, as it is precisely the payment of the DAS that grants the right to benefits.

Changes to MEI next year

DAS fee is based on the minimum wage

The value of the DAS refers to the minimum wage in the country, charged at 5% of the current wage. There is also an additional R$ 5.00 for services and R$ 1.00 for industrial trade ICMS. Taxes on Services (ISS) add R$ 6.00 to the total amount.

The readjustment of minimum wage of 2023 was presented by President Jair Bolsonaro, increasing from R$ 1,212.00 to R$ 1,302.00. So far, it has been necessary to wait for a position on the Transition PEC. If it is approved, the national minimum wage will be R$ 1,302.00. Therefore, the DAS share can also be affected by the change.

The value will be confirmed by Sebrae as soon as there is an official announcement of the minimum wage value for 2023.

Revenue cap and employee addition

The update of the MEI rate is accompanied by the news about the billing ceiling. Bill (PL) 108/2021 is being processed by Congress, which provides for the readjustment in the billing ceiling of the MEI in 2023, counting from 2006 until March 2022, taking into account the inflation in Brazil. The PL will also be able to allow a larger number of employees for the company, since so far it can count on only two employees in the establishment.
