According to the Budget Guidelines Law, the minimum wage for 2023 is expected to undergo a readjustment, rising to R$ 1302. The data also indicate that this would be the fifth year in a row without the real increase being carried out by the government.
The president elected at the end of October, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), guaranteed in his campaign that he should return with the increases for next year. According to labor legislation, the salary must be readjusted annually and be based on the INPC (National Consumer Price Index).

The goal is for the numbers to be in line with purchasing power. The initial projection made by the Ministry of Economy says that 2022 would end with the index of 7.4% and the adjustment based on the LDO would not be enough to overcome inflation.
After revision, carried out by the Economic Policy Secretariat, the INPC estimate is 6% and, therefore, the minimum wage adjustment would be calculated at just R$ 1284.00.
Although governments always seek to follow the proposed numbers, according to Deputy Reginaldo Lopes, leader of the PT in the Chamber, and Senator Wellington Dias, the idea of the new government is to suggest that the minimum wage be set at R$ 1320.00 for January 2023. This value consists of an increase of 1.4% above the forecast.
The proposal aims to boost the purchasing power of the Brazilian population, so that the economy can be busy and work again and end up, in a way, returning to the public coffers due to the return brought in the form of consumption.
For this change to take effect from January 1, the PEC needs to receive approval in 2022. In case of rejection of the proposal, the president-elect will have to negotiate a provisional measure to guarantee that the increase will be carried out in the manner planned by him and by his entire leadership.
