In Brazil, the sale of the vegetable is strong, especially in the case of canned goods, which are used, above all, in salads or pizzas (be careful with sodium, an enemy of the heart). In addition, however, large distribution companies offer food on the cob, which is intended for production of curau or pamonha, according to the National Corn and Sorghum Research Center of Embrapa, an agency linked to the Government Federal.
From a nutritional point of view, corn is very rich in calcium, among other minerals. In contact with fire (popcorn), part of the nutrients are lost.
Another important function of corn in daily food: from it, producers manage to extract corn flour and cornmeal, used to prepare typical Brazilian dishes. Both are rich in starch and polysaccharide which helps to strengthen the immune system.
Ideally, the substances found in corn are part of the menu, even if indirectly, such as in polenta or homemade mush.
