At a large meeting of all the animals, which had been organized to elect a new leader, the Monkey was asked to make his presentation.
He did so well with his somersaults, pantomimes, grimaces, and squeaks that the animals there couldn't help but be impressed by all that staging and theatrical play.
And excited with such a performance, from that day forward, they decided to elect him as their new King.
The Fox, who had not voted for the Monkey, was upset with the other animals for having elected a leader, in his view, so disqualified, since they only took into account the appearances, the spectacle, the typical political circus, things that, for her, had no value as an attribute personal.
One day, walking through the forest, she found a trap with a piece of meat. She ran to the Monkey King and told him that she had found a rich treasure, but that she had not touched it, because by right it belonged to his majesty, of course, the Monkey.
The pretentious and greedy Monkey, intoxicated with the vanity of his apparent importance, and eyeing the gift, without thinking twice, followed the Fox into the trap. And as soon as he saw the piece of meat clinging there, without thinking twice, he reached out to take it. So he ended up also getting stuck. The Fox, beside him, laughed.
“You claim to be a King,” she said, “yet you prove incapable of taking care even of yourself…”
