Read:
The square dance is a tribute to the saints of June, as if it were a thank you for the good harvests. But this was after the dance became popular, because when it appeared (in the 18th century in Paris) and then moved to Brazil (in the period of the Empire), the dance was performed only in the courts.
The gang is led by a marker, who guides the couples in a big wedding ball. In each region of our country, we see different markings, richness of dances and square rhythms, usually accompanied by zabumba, triangle, accordion and viola. As the people are very creative, they mix and invent fashion, which makes the dances very rich and fun.
