“The minimum rate (amount paid to the driver) on Uber X is R$5.25, gasoline is R$5.40. Now, that there is often not much demand, we take the opportunity to select a longer trip, if not, sometimes it doesn't even pay for the fuel," explains Eduardo Andreazzi, 23, who has been an Uber driver for two years. years.
In addition, the amount that the driver receives from the companies changes according to the number of kilometers traveled and the time spent on the journey. “Per kilometer, it's around R$ 1.10 and time, R$ 0.15 per minute”, says Eduardo. The values used within the 99 are almost the same.
Drivers also complain about the lack of readjustment of the minimum rate, which has not been updated since 2016. In a way, it reduces earnings and forces drivers to choose more distant and advantageous routes.
“Sometimes, the application tells us to pick up a passenger who is 5 kilometers away to ride with him one kilometer. The minimum fare [for Uber X and 99 Pop, R$5.25] has not changed since 2016 and the price of fuel is high too much, our operating cost has doubled”, explains Rosemar Pereira, 48, a driver who serves both platforms.
In response to this phase of driver shortages and ride availability, Uber reports that ride demand has grown again in recent weeks due to advances in the vaccination campaign in the country, which allows for the gradual reopening of activities commercials. However, she also declares that drivers are free to choose whether or not they want to attend a certain type of trip.
