Born in the city of Catete, Rio de Janeiro, on July 2, 1918, Athos Bulcão was a great Brazilian artist. Since he was little he dreamed of the universe of art, his sisters constantly took him to the theater. On the other hand, his father's dream was for him to become a doctor. The carioca came to study medicine, but gave up, because the desire to live for the art spoke louder.
Athos Bulcão began his career alongside Cândido Portinari, working with the São Francisco de Assis panel, at the Pampulha Church in Minas Gerais, where he learned about colors and drawings.
