The “Criadouro Onça Pintada” is one of the few entities authorized by Ibama to keep wild animals for reproduction. The site is not open to visits, but accepts volunteers. To learn more, visit the site criaurooncapintada.org.br.

Breeding wild animals without proof of origin is a crime. Convicts can be punished with fines of up to R$5,000 and imprisonment for six months to a year – or even longer, if the animal dies. To stay within the law, it is necessary to make a request to Ibama: ibama.gov.br.
