In a recent study published in the Multidisciplinary Revista Ciência Latina, neuroscientist Dr. Fabiano de Abreu Agrela explains that there is indeed a connection between myopia and the use of screens. In this case, he explains that long periods of use of computers, smartphones and tablets causes eye fatigue, which is one of the main causes of myopia.
Furthermore, Dr. Agrela emphasizes that these effects can be intensified if screens are accessed early, which unfortunately happens all too often in our time. By that, we mean that young children, even babies, when exposed to screens with a certain frequency, will be more likely to develop myopia.
However, this is not an issue unique to the use of screens. After all, several studies have already proven that even excessive reading and early start of student life can lead to vision problems, including myopia. Proof of this is that since education became democratized, cases of myopia in the world have increased a lot.
Other issues related to excessive use of screens
the question of myopia it's just another warning about the dangers of overuse of screens. After all, there are already studies that prove that being exposed to monitors for a long time can inhibit melatonin, hormone responsible for making people sleepy, especially when this use occurs at night, before to sleep.
Furthermore, there are already other studies that relate the excessive use of screens to the development of problems such as depression or anxiety. In this way, experts warn that it is important to control the time we spend in front of the monitors for the sake of our own health.
