The first calculating machine was the abacus, which appeared in Mesopotamia (region of present-day Iraq) around the year 3,500 BC. This instrument still exists today: it is a frame with sticks in the vertical direction; the bats have tokens or accounts used to calculate. The first abacuses were drawn on the floor, but later they were built with wood or stone. The first mechanical calculator was created in 1623, by the German Wilhelm Schickard. She performed addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division operations with six-digit numbers, indicating the result by means of a ringing bell. And the first electronic calculator, similar to the ones we use today, was produced by the Casio company in 1957.
