People around the world are taking part in a competition that will define the name of the new Chinese space probe. Scheduled for launch in December, the mission will aim to explore a little-known part of the Moon, the South Pole-Aitken Basin.
In addition to earning about $435, the contest winner will receive tickets to see the mission launch up close. The winner will be announced in October.
Altogether, the exploration vehicle is 1.5 meters long and one meter high. In addition, it has six wheels and two solar panels, which will supply the machine with energy.
The second Chinese mission to the Moon is planned for next year. The objective is to collect samples from the satellite and bring them to Earth, where they will be studied. The last time scientists received samples from the Moon was in 1976, when the Soviet Union (formerly Russia) launched the Luna 24 expedition.
The United States has plans to build a station in orbit around the Moon. In a speech to the US National Agency (NASA), Vice President Mike Pence said the base should be ready by 2024.
According to authorities, the station will contribute to the space exploration process, which has been studied by the Americans for decades. However, some say this is also an attempt by the United States to compete with China, which is also investing in its moon exploration program.
Today, the United States and China are the largest economies in the world and compete with each other.
