Skin care: avoid THESE products when tanning

The search for the perfect tan tone is constant and involves a diverse range of experiments. However, there are considerable risks associated with many of these practices to obtain skin desired golden color.

Many people turn to “alternative” methods to achieve a tanned ideal, using products such as soda, paraffin, henna, lemon, olive oil, coconut oil, adhesive tape and adhesive bikinis. These approaches, however, are advised against by skin care experts due to the dangers they pose to health.

In places like the Northeast coast, where sunny weather prevails, the temptation to tan is even more pronounced. However, the combination of prolonged exposure to the sun and the use of inappropriate products can result in severe burns, irritation and even irreparable damage to the skin.

The use of these unsafe substances and practices amplifies the risk of serious health problems, including skin cancer and accelerated aging processes.

Therefore, it is essential to adopt protective measures during sun exposure. Using quality sunscreen and appropriate clothing and limiting time in the sun are essential to ensure a safe tan.

What to use to tan?

For those who long for that golden skin, self-tanners appear as a viable and safer alternative, eliminating the need for direct sun exposure.

Dermatologist Marcia Oliveira, a reference at Hospital de Clínicas UFPE, reiterates the need for caution when looking for a tan. She emphasizes the importance of using self-tanners containing dihydroxyacetone for a safe and natural tan.

Furthermore, it highlights the need for sun protection measures, such as the use of sunscreen with SPF 30, hats and sunglasses. A diet rich in beta-carotene, present in foods such as carrots, papaya and beetroot, also is a recommended strategy to assist in the production of melanin and protection against damage solar.

A healthof the skin should not be neglected. Regular visits to a dermatologist or healthcare professional for specific guidance are vital to keeping your skin healthy and protected.
