According to the ranking released by the organization of the World Gelato Festival, Sorveteria Cairu, which is located in Belém (PA), ranked 32nd and is the best-placed Brazilian establishment in the list. In this sense, the highlight of this feat goes to Armando José Laiun Filho, who was considered the “golden” ice cream maker in the country.
The grandiose work of Sorveteria Cairu has already been recognized as the best in Brazil nine times, once in the previous edition of the award and eight times in the evaluation of several competitions. Its great triumph comes from the use of locally sourced ingredients and flavors in its menu. A prime example is the acclaimed Carimbó ice cream, a blend of cupuaçu and Brazil nuts that has been styled to honor a distinct indigenous dance from the North region.
The other award-winning ice cream parlor is from São Paulo, it is called San Lorenzo Gelateria and was in 37th place in the festival's ranking. Brenno Floriano's work is incredible, mainly due to the creation of exclusive flavors such as gelato with drool girl, gorgonzola, hibiscus, strudel, panettone and rose petals, which won the title of Best Gelato in Brazil in 2018 and 2021.
These non-traditional flavors compete for attention among customers who love conventional ice creams, such as Nutella, pistachio and mint.
Although there is no Brazilian ice cream parlor at the top of the ranking, the top five are worth mentioning. In this sense, in first place was Gelateria I Giardini di Marzo (Italy); secondly, Fazekas Cukraszda (Hungary); in 3rd place, La Parona del gelato (Italy); in 4th position, Savannah’s Kitchen (USA); and finally, in 5th place, VeroLatte (Italy).
