As part of his re-election measures, the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, said he plans to release another round of the guarantee fund for some workers. It is estimated that around 40 million will benefit from this measure.
Since 2019, the government has been releasing active and inactive FGTS amounts. In the first year, for example, sums of up to R$500.00 were released from dormant accounts to workers. In 2020, the peak of the pandemic, withdrawals of up to R$1045.00 can be made.
The minister's main idea is that people use these amounts to pay off debts. According to him, many people are in debt and could see this money as a way to clear their name.
For the release to occur, President Jair Bolsonaro must sign a provisional measure authorizing withdrawal by workers. If it occurs, it will be the third time that the president releases the withdrawal from the guarantee fund.
Currently, the FGTS withdrawal can only be done in extreme moments, such as dismissal for just cause, in case of serious illness or in cases of public calamity.
Finally, when the FGTS is released, it directly impacts the economy in different ways. One is the GDP recovery, as people tend to buy more and this strengthens the services sector. It's a chain reaction that predicts an economic breakthrough.
