The Ministry of Education (MEC) should announce in the next few days the actions to expand the number of civic-military schools in the country. Last week, there was a responsible team meeting. Agência Brasil found that only final adjustments are needed before launching the policy.
Increasing the number of civic-military schools in the country is one of the priorities of the MEC, which now has an Undersecretary for Fostering Civic-Military Schools.

Currently, there are 120 schools in 17 states of the country with the model, most of them in Goiás, with 50 educational establishments, according to a survey by the Military Police of the Federal District (DF). The DF schools are not yet included in the account.
In a note, last month, the MEC informed that the model is justified by the high rates of crime in Brazil. “The Ministry of Education will seek an alternative for the cultural formation of future generations, based on civility, hierarchy, in mutual respect, without any kind of ideology, thus making them citizens aware of reality and critics of facts real."
According to the ministry, the positive performance of these schools and the “high rates in the evaluations” are also considered.
The school model, according to the MEC, “will have the participation of various segments of society. Each entity involved, within its sphere of competence, will be of fundamental importance for the construction of a better Brazil.
These teaching units will be aimed at families who agree with this educational proposal”. To be implemented, the model needs the participation of states and municipalities.
With the expansion of civic-military schools, the inclusion of moral and civic education in the classroom returned to the debate, which is defended by the Minister of Education, Ricardo Vélez. In the Federal District, in civic-military schools, there will be classes on ethics and citizenship.
Under the name of civic, moral and physical education for children and youth, the subject became mandatory during the government of Getúlio Vargas, in 1940. The aim was the formation of patriotic consciousness.
The discipline was also adopted in 1969. Instituted by decree, its objectives were the preservation, strengthening and projection of the nationality's spiritual and ethical values; worship of the homeland, its symbols, traditions, institutions and the great figures of its history; the improvement of character, with support in morale, dedication to family and community, among others.
