Read:

What are earthquakes and why do they arise?

The mantle, which is the surface layer of our planet, is formed by 20 plates, which lightly bump against each other. When this happens, there is great pressure on the rocks at the edges of the plates; and sometimes the rocks get stuck and the pressure builds up. When they detach, they produce shock waves whose movements are reflected on the Earth's surface. These movements are earthquakes, and they are waves so strong that they can have the blast power of 200 tons of dynamite.
