A very rare astronomical phenomenon can be observed from Earth between December 16th and 21st.
It is about the alignment of Jupiter and Saturn, which will be so close that they are seen as two bright points in the sky, as if they were a double planet.
This formation is also known as “Estrela de Belém” or “Estrela de Natal”. The most intense approach day is 12/21 and will be visible after sunset.
The two planets only came this close a century ago, in the years 1623 and 1226.
The conjunction is rare because each planet takes a different time to revolve around the star-king. The Earth, for example, takes a year to come around completely. The planets Jupiter and Saturn take about 12 and 30 years respectively.
