Unlike most social programs, the national value of gas did not receive a fixed amount throughout the year. In general, the government must pay at least half the average price of a 13 kg gas cylinder. For example, in April, all beneficiaries received R$51 in their digital accounts. However, there is still no estimated value for the month of June.
This is mainly because it is almost impossible to predict what the average price of a gas cylinder will be in this situation. In any case, the Federal Government anticipates that the amount will not change significantly. So, relative to the April value, it can go up or down a little bit.
There is one more significant point that interferes with the value of the gas voucher. The Federal Senate recently approved a bill that aims to increase the benefit. To enter into force, the text needs to pass through the Chamber of Deputies and President Bolsonaro’s sanction.
If the text clears all legislative hurdles and becomes law before the next round of payments, the voucher's national value could increase in June. However, nothing has been confirmed so far. Therefore, the idea that the project will transfer less than R$ 50 to more than 5 million Brazilians remains valid.
Furthermore, according to information, for the first time since the start of payments, a reduction in the number of national users of the gas voucher was observed. Approximately 200 thousand Brazilians lost the benefit between February and April. The most common reason was the existence of inconsistencies in the information.
