First, the BPC is aimed at seniors aged 65 and over, or people of any age. who have some type of disability, whether physical, sensorial, mental or intellectual. However, to obtain the BPC it is necessary to meet some requirements, including having an income of up to ¼ of a minimum wage per person in the family and being enrolled in the Single Registry (CadÚnico).
At Normative Instruction No. 77/2015 from the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) contains the list of serious illnesses that qualify for BPC granting. So, briefly check out what these diseases are below.
However, being a carrier of one of these diseases does not guarantee the BPC, as an assessment is required in order to analyze whether the disease in question confers a temporary or long-term impediment. Thus, the INSS is the body responsible for carrying out the expertise to grant or not the benefit.
In addition to the impediment, the person requesting the BPC also needs to prove that he is unable to support himself. Therefore, the amount of family income per person must be up to ¼ of a minimum wage in effect in the year of requesting the benefit.
Long-term impairment refers to the inability, for two years or more, to participate fully and effectively in activities in society. In this sense, the person with a disability (PCD) is the individual who has conditions that lead to this lasting impediment.
