babassu

The tree can reach 10 to 30 meters in height and its large arched leaves can reach eight meters in length. Each palm tree can have between three to five long clusters of yellowish flowers. The flowering peak takes place between January and April and the fruits ripen between August and December. Each bunch, in turn, can produce from 300 to 500 coconuts. The rind of the fruit is resistant and, inside, there are 3 to 5 almonds that have commercial value as they are the main raw material for the production of coconut oil from babassu.
