You've certainly heard of it, but do you know how and why the aurora borealis happens?
Many don't know, but the name of the phenomenon is polar aurora, and it manifests itself as a colored glow observed in the night skies, in the polar regions of Planet Earth – both in the north and in the south.
The aurora occurs due to the impact of solar wind particles with the Earth's upper atmosphere, channeled by the Earth's magnetic field.
