NAME:
He was once a young man who was always stealing. He stole apples from the farmer's orchard. He stole cakes from the baker's basket
One day, he was caught stealing red peppers from the market. These peppers had been brought by ship from India and were very expensive.
The soldiers took him to court and related the incident to the king.
The king asked the young man to choose his own punishment from three options.
The king decreed:
– You can eat all the peppers on the market, you can get a thousand lashes or you can pay a fine.
Without thinking twice, the young man said he would gladly eat all the peppers. A bag of red peppers was brought before him. After just five peppers, the young man's face turned red and tears began to pour from his eyes. He begged for a change of sentence and pleaded for a thousand lashes. Once again, after five lashes, the young man could not bear the pain and begged to pay the fine.
The young man now knew the pain of each punishment and never again underestimated a punishment.
