NAME:

the miser and the buns

There was once a merchant who was very greedy. One day he saw an old woman who was selling freshly baked bread. So the merchant bought her loaves at the lowest price.
Happy with the bargain, he went home and ate the loaves. The next day, he also saw the same old lady and again bought the bread at the lowest price. And so it went on for a month when, all of a sudden, the old lady disappeared. The merchant was disappointed because he couldn't get cheap bread anywhere.

After a while, the merchant saw the old woman in a street and asked why she had stopped selling bread. At first, the old woman didn't answer, but then she said:
– I was taking care of a man who had an ulcer on his spine. The doctor had told me to mash wheat with butter and place it where he had pain. The next morning I always baked buns made from that wheat and you bought them, when the man died I stopped baking bread.
When the merchant heard this, he regretted his greedy nature.
