Text for questions 2 to 9
The storm made the night even darker and more frightening. Lightning streaked the leaden sky and the bluish light of lightning illuminated the lonely valley, penetrating the trees of the thick forest. Thunder rumbled like sudden cannon fire, interrupting the silence of the scene […]. Fueled by the persistent rain, the waters of the river began to rise and invade the banks, carrying everything in their path. Ravines tumbled and trees were uprooted by the force of the current, while the river mingled with the rest as if everything were one and the same. But something… or someone… still resisted. Clinging desperately to a thick trunk that the waters carried downstream, an exhausted and wounded boy struggled to stay conscious and have any chance of survival. Every now and then his arms slipped and he almost sank, but soon he gained new strength, raised his head and tried in vain to steer his torso towards one of the banks. Suddenly, in the period of silence that followed each thunder, he began to hear an unsettling noise, which grew closer and closer. A strange smoke rose up ahead, and then he realized: it was a waterfall! […] A desperate leap, he grabbed the branch of a tree that was still standing near the bank and he let go of the floating log, which made its way to the edge of the cliff and dove into it. uncontrolled. The storm continued and blinded the boy, the river continued its fierce course and the waterfall snarled right next to where he was standing. He suddenly realized that the distance between one of the banks and the branch he was hanging from could perhaps be bridged with a leap. He managed to get rid of the wet shirt, which clung to his body and hampered his movements. He took a deep breath to gather his courage. If he missed the jump, he would be swallowed by the waterfall... but if he got it right, he would be safe. He saw that he had no other way out and decided to give it a try. He picked up momentum and […] managed to reach the bank. […] He stood up unsteadily and looked around, trying to decide which way to go. That's when he heard a horrible roar, which seemed to come from very close. He ran to the opposite side, but he didn't go far. Soon he found himself trapped in front of a gigantic cliff, which barred his way. The roar came closer and closer. There was no way out. On one side, the impassable cliff; on the other, a hungry beast surrounding him ready to attack. Then he saw a hole in the stone wall and quickly got inside. The beast followed him to the cave entrance, but was surprised. With a large stone he found in the cave door, the boy hit the animal's head as hard as he could and the beast staggered until it fell, unconscious. Once outside the cave, he examined the cliff he would have to cross before the beast came to. […] That's when a huge eagle flew by very low and the boy grabbed it by the feet, taking flight with it. Seeing himself in midair, he looked down in horror. If he fell, he wouldn't have a piece left. He took a firm hold of the bird's long claws and crossed to the other side of the cliff. The other side had a very different scenario. For starters, it was daylight, and the sun was shining in a cloudless sky over an obstacle-filled race track, where motorcycles were positioned properly mounted by riders in overalls and helmets, in a position of start. Only on one of the bikes there was no one. The eagle swooped over the runway, and the boy broke free as it passed right over the unoccupied bike. As soon as he fell mounted, the starting signal was given. The bikes accelerated noisily and sped off, facing obstacles such as ramps, potholes and mudflats. The race was tough, but the boy's motorcycle was one of the fastest. Soon he took the lead, followed closely by a gleaming black motorcycle, driven by a grim-looking rider. […] By leaning his body a little more, the boy managed to accelerate his bike and increased the distance between himself and the second place. But the mysterious rider had a card up his sleeve: in a quick jab, he made his motorcycle come up from behind and, with a precise movement, he tripped the boy's bike. The motorcycle skidded and fell, rolling with a crash across the track floor and kicking up a cloud of dust. The boy rolled with her and they both crashed violently against a mountain of earth, one of the last obstacles before their arrival. The black bike won the race, to the applause of the excited crowd, and the boy was passed out on the ground. With a victorious smile, Eugenio saw the words GAME END appear on the screen. He let go of the joystick and wiped the sweat from his hand on his shorts. […]
