In the North American market, the company HMD Global recorded an increase in sales of flip phones in 2022, selling tens of thousands of units monthly.
However, global sales of these devices have fallen, according to the company. Counterpoint Research, a global technology market research firm, says that by 2022, approximately 80% of feature phone sales will come from the Middle East, Africa and India.

Phone companies like Punkt and Light are meeting this demand, selling devices to people who want to spend less time on their phones and social media. Even digital influencers have mobilized to promote this trend.
“With the Light phone, we are not trying to create a simplified cell phone, but a more intentional, premium and minimalist that isn't anti-tech," explained Joe Hollier, co-founder of Light. “It's about consciously choosing how and when to use which aspects of technology contribute to my quality of life.
