New RG will be mandatory for everyone? Know the deadline

The Federal Government has been planning to update the General Registry (RG) of Brazilians for some time now. Although the issuance of this new document has been in effect since March 1, many people still have doubts about this novelty. What changes in the new RG?

Are you one of the many people who struggle to record all those numbers on their ID cards? So this will be good news: the new RG will have the CPF as the main number.

In addition, the document will have an authentication QR Code, which can be used as a passport within Mercosur countries.

When do I need to renew the RG?

The new RG is now available and can be issued at any time, depending on the state. If your document is still the old one, pay attention to the stipulated expiration dates:

• Children from 0 to 12 years old: The new RG must be issued by 2027;
• People aged 12 to 60: The new RG must be issued by 2032;
• Seniors over 60 years: There is no expiration date for this group.

How to request the issuance of the new RG?

The new RG, also known as RG Digital, will feature the union of several security systems in the country, including biometrics. Thus, in order to issue the new document, the citizen must have registered his fingerprint in the National Civil Identification Database (BDICN). After that, you will need to register online. See how:

• Download the National Identity Document application, available on the Play Store (Android) and App Store (iOS);
• Then fill in the registration with your CPF, full name, affiliation, date of birth, email and phone number;
• Finally, request an appointment at a unit of the Secretariat of Public Security through the application itself.

After that, you will only need to pick up your new document on the scheduled day.
