INSS intends to suspend more than 8 thousand benefits; know if you will be affected

The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) is the body responsible for paying various benefits to Brazilians, such as retirement, for example. In that sense, a revision is in progress and, as a consequence, the suspension of INSS benefits may occur, but this will only be for those who have any irregularity in the maintenance of benefits.

Suspension of benefits unduly paid by the INSS

The Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) recently carried out an audit and identified that at least BRL 80 million were paid to beneficiaries who died in 2021.

In view of this, the INSS must suspend these benefits in the next 150 days, and there is still the possibility that those who received the payments will have to return the amounts to the public coffers. If the request for reimbursement is made and the citizen refuses to return it, he may respond in court for this.

Other reasons that may lead to the suspension of an INSS benefit

Several reasons can lead to the suspension or even the cancellation of a benefit, so we list the main reasons that can make a person lose INSS transfers. So, check out what they are below and always keep your situation regular to avoid possible inconvenience in the future.

  1. Do not move INSS money for two months (60 full days). This is important because in this situation, the institute assumes that the insured in question “does not need” the amounts and then suspends payments;
  2. Having out-of-date data from the Cadastro Único, especially in the case of beneficiaries linked to assistance programs such as the Continuous Provision Benefit/Loas, for example;
  3. Failure to attend the medical examination on the day, place and time scheduled (unless you have a justification), because carrying out the expertise is mandatory in the case of benefits granted due to incapacity or deficiency;
  4. When the period of effectiveness of the pension for death ends, after all, the benefit is not always lifetime;
  5. Continue working with activities considered harmful to health after receiving special retirement;
  6. In situations of verification of fraud during the process of granting or maintaining the benefit;
  7. Accumulation of pensions. It is not allowed to receive two benefits of this type at the same time, so one of them will stop being paid.
