When the temperature of the environment is lower than that of our body, we lose heat and this is what makes us feel cold.
But why then doesn't our body cool down to freezing? Well, our bodies have several ways to defend against this loss of heat, so in the cold, we are shivering. Shivering stimulates the body to produce heat. Also, we shiver and cringe, which makes it difficult to lose heat. Did you know that the blanket does not warm the body? It just prevents heat loss to the environment, so you feel less cold!
When we feel hot, the opposite happens. The environment is hotter than our body, so the heat tends to warm us up.
But why don't we heat it to a fire? Once again, our bodies have ways to prevent overheating, and that's what happens when we're sweating. When sweat evaporates from our bodies, it takes some of the heat with it, which helps us to cool down. In addition, blood circulates more strongly through the skin, which facilitates the loss of heat through it.
But how does our body perceive temperature? It turns out that in our brain there is a region called the hypothalamus, that's right, hypothalamus, which is sensitive to temperature. When the body gets too hot, the cells in the hypothalamus, which are called neurons, stimulate the production of sweat on our skin, and then we sweat.
See how many parts of our bodies work together to keep our bodies healthy?
