By Resolution 886/2021, vehicles will be divided into 14 categories in a combination of letters A, B, C and D and some with the number 1. To explain better, for example, category E will no longer exist, in its place will be CE or C1E.
In the new portfolio model, the most common category, which is passenger vehicles, remains unchanged: B. However, drivers will have the option to opt for category B1 and C1. In the case of motorcycles, you will have option A1.
The Contran resolution does not go into detail about changes in the rules for first license, renewal or category addition. But it is certain that new details will be published by June 2022.
The new CNH will measure 85 x 120 mm and will be printed on paper money, in addition to having various security features such as UV ink, reflective strips and a watermark. But even though it is only valid in the national territory, it will have words in English and French: ‘Driving license’ and ‘permis de conduire’ — which in Portuguese means: ‘Carteira de qualification'.
As in other situations, the driver will not need to immediately change the old original document with a photo. The current portfolio will still remain valid until the expiration date of the document itself.
However, when observing the new category chart, it is noted that there are classes A and A1, B and B1 and C and C1, among others. But it was not clear whether the driver with category A will also be able to drive category A1. However, if there is a need for a new test to add to the A1, for example, this will generate an extra expense for the citizen.
