The black pew is a unique monkey, likes to eat different foods from other primates and has a look…

As its name implies, most of its fur is black. It has a long, furry tail that, for many, looks more like a feather duster. He spends the day moving quickly through the tops of tall trees in search of food: flowers, sprouts, insects, spiders and fruit.

As for the fruits, the black-eyed peach really likes the seeds when they are still green and soft. To be able to open the fruit that is still unripe, he uses his canine teeth, which are large and leaning forward, and also has the help of his facial muscles, which are very strong. These large muscles around the face form, at the top of his head, two fur-covered ends. On the chin, he has a thick beard – these characteristics are present in both females and males.

The black cuxiú is fast and skittish, it jumps fast and runs away from anyone who tries to get close. So it's not easy to spot him. Researchers know, however, that this species lives in large groups, with up to 40 individuals, and in which the number of males and females is well balanced. […]

[…] The males are particularly friendly with each other, they stay close together and appear to be very tolerant of the pups' games. It's not the males, however, who take care of the little monkeys. This is the task of the mothers, who breastfeed them and carry them clinging to their fur until they become independent.

In addition to being good friends with each other, the cuxiús get along well with other species, being able to spend many days traveling together with the capuchin monkey and the squirrel monkey, for example. For researchers, this may be a way they have found to reinforce surveillance. […] The company of other primates can also be useful for locating food.

Deforestation and the destruction of the forests where the black squaw lives are major threats to the species. In addition, he is hunted, because there are those who like to eat his meat and those who sell – amazing! – your ass as a duster. The challenge for researchers is to know what to do to preserve this friendly monkey. […]
