The Rio-Santos highway will be the first in Brazil to use this new method of electronic fare collection. It has not yet been revealed how much will be charged, but by the end of March this year it should be disclosed. The structures are being installed in different regions of the country of Rio de Janeiro – in Itaguaí at km 414, in Mangaratiba at km 447 and in Paraty at km 538.
The first version of toll without gates on Brazilian highways works through the Flow System. Its aim is to replace traditional toll gates to allow drivers to take trips without stopping or slowing down at collection points. The toll without gates has an electronic collection system, which identifies and classifies the type of vehicle for charging.
Payment can be made through a TAG – a digital payment sticker, such as Sem Parar – previously installed on the windshield or by reading the license plate. For drivers who opt for the first option, the charge will arrive via monthly invoice and can offer up to 70% discount for the most frequent users. The sticker also offers a 5% discount on toll payments. Who chooses the second option, payment can be made via pix, chatbot via Whatsapp, application or web portal of the concessionaire.
The company intends to carry out an educational campaign to explain to drivers how the new system will work and how payment will be made.
