According to Caixa Econômica Federal, in 2021 alone, more than 400,000 Brazilian workers accessed the benefit of the FGTS withdrawal for health reasons. In this sense, it is important to know which are the serious illnesses or those with an important health need that guarantee the worker this benefit.
According to the current rules, the following health complications guarantee the right to withdraw amounts from the FGTS: being a carrier of HIV/AIDS; mental alienation; blindness; if you have cancer or the end-stage of other serious illnesses; Parkinson's disease; radiation contamination; irreversible/disabling paralysis; active tuberculosis; severe liver disease; ankylosing spondyloarthritis; severe nephropathy; advanced stage of Paget's disease; leprosy.
In addition, in cases where the worker needs the money to buy a prosthesis or orthosis, he may have access to FGTS resources. However, it is necessary to be aware of the condition of not being able to operate in the market for at least two consecutive years, and the amount released is limited to the cost of the equipment.
To apply for the FGTS withdrawal benefit due to illness, however, you must first apply through the Caixa page or application. In addition, for those who prefer, this request can also be made in person at Caixa bank branches.
Finally, the required documents are: work card; identification document; proof of voting; PIS/PASEP/NIS registration number; copy of exams and medical reports; and completion of the form “Medical Report of Serious Illnesses for Requesting the Withdrawal of the FGTS”.
